Em 2016, Lu Monin deu o segundo passo da sua revolução pessoal e profissional e abriu oficialmente e fisicamente o Atelier de pintura que leva seu nome. Apenas dois anos antes, ela tinha largado o mundo corporativo onde tinha trabalhado anos e anos e  começava a transformar sua paixão em trabalho, dando aulas de pinturas e vendendo suas criações. Desde 2016, o Atelier Lu Monin evolui e ouvindo o desejo dos clientes, Lu foi diversificando as atividades e começou a propor aulas temáticas como a ‘noite do vinho e pintura’, ‘atividades pais e filhos’, ‘festas de aniversário’ e etc. O atelier rompeu com o monótono e abriu as portas para a convivialidade trazendo uma flexibilidade que ainda é rara no meio da arte. Com a pandemia de 2020, as aulas tiveram que parar e Lu pegou esse tempo para se centrar novamente na sua arte. Foi então, que ela percebeu que precisava de um curador de arte par orientar e para opinar sobre a evolução da seu trabalho. Após procurar esse profissional  do meio durante um ano, sem muito sucesso, ela teve a ideia de se tornar esse pilar para novos artistas, de ser alguém do meio artístico que possa falar do trabalho de outros artistas de forma crítica e didática, para dar visibilidade às criações o e para me abrir as portas certas. Foi assim que nasceu seu novo projeto : a Galeria Lu Monin e a Curadoria LM & RA, essa última em parceria com Rosa Agria. 

Nessa entrevista, Lu divide com a gente seu percurso inspirador, dá dicas para quem quer começar um negócio e detalhes sobre esse novo projeto que tem como objetivo auxiliar o trabalho de novos artistas, afinal como ela mesmo pôde provar, viver de arte é um sonho possível!

Miranda : 2021 marca o lançamento de dois novos produtos/projetos para você, a Galeria Lu Monin e a Curadoria LM & RA, como surgiu essa ideia e porque ela é especial?
Lu Monin : Primeiro veio o serviço de curadoria para artistas iniciantes e emergentes e iniciei o ano lançando a “Don’t stop us now”, a minha primeira exposição online. As stories no Instagram vinham animadas com o grupo Queen/Freddie Mercury cantando “Don’t stop me now”… aquilo me dava tanta energia que eu continuava anunciando e postando! O sucesso foi grande e eu passei janeiro e fevereiro trabalhando noite e dia. Ainda bem que tive muita ajuda da minha mãe, Ro Agria, para a divulgação dos artistas participantes, para montagem de vídeos e no trabalho preparatório para os jurados (um no Brasil, Paulo Barreto e outro na Suíça, Francisca Voutat). Havia nascido a LM & RA art curators! E, com ela uma plataforma de serviços de curadoria de arte independente aberta aos artistas plásticos, fotógrafos, escultores, designers etc. no mundo todo. Em menos de um mês, veio a nossa própria galeria de arte online, a Galerie Lu Monin, dedicada exclusivamente à arte contemporânea, servindo aos artistas com a nossa curadoria. Eu opero a partir da Suíça e a Ro Agria a partir do Brasil. Nossos artistas têm promoção em 3 línguas (EM-FR-PT) 7/7 dias e praticamente 24/24 horas… a gente não para!

Todos os artistas são bem-vindos nesse seu novo projeto?
Sim, claro. A única exigência é produzir um trabalho de qualidade. Respeitamos muito nossos artistas e seus trabalhos, tanto quanto respeitamos nosso público. Queremos divulgar arte com engajamento, propósito e ao alcance de todos.

Qual a importância para um novo artista de ter uma assessoria/curadoria? 
O desejo de todo artista é ver seu trabalho reconhecido e vender suas obras. Contudo a grande maioria, produz bastante e com qualidade, mas não consegue divulgar seu trabalho, quer seja por inexperiência em marketing, quer seja por falta de tempo.  Para o artista, ter uma curadoria honesta e aliada com seus objetivos é de extrema importância. A curadoria cuida da sua imagem no mundo artístico, divulga suas obras, procura galerias e outros locais para exposição e ajuda na valoração dos trabalhos. Muitas vezes o artista é bom, mas está indo pelo caminho errado na sua produção de obras. A curadoria faz as críticas necessárias para que ele aprimore seu trabalho e siga no caminho certo. Enfim, com um curador ao seu lado, o artista tem muitas mais chances de ter uma carreira de sucesso.

Qual a importância de diversificar os projetos/produtos para pequenos empresários? 
Flexibilidade é a palavra-chave. Ver soluções onde há problemas faz parte de mim como pessoa criativa (e brasileira). Se não fosse a grande gama de serviços que oferecemos, sob medida e conforme a necessidade do público, acho que não teríamos o sucesso que temos em tão pouco tempo.

Quais são suas dicas para alguém que quer começar um negócio próprio?
Organização e método. Se não tiver experiência administrativa na área e não quiser correr riscos, é melhor consultar um profissional.

Como é para você ser uma empresária, mulher e imigrante nesse meio?
Encontro obstáculos todos os dias: são preconceitos por eu ser mulher, por eu ser de origem estrangeira, pelo meu sotaque etc. Às vezes supero facilmente, às vezes preciso encontrar estratégias para contorná-los. Tenho o apoio e reconhecimento da minha família e vem deles as opiniões que realmente fazem a diferença.

O que você gostaria de ter sabido antes de começar essa jornada?
Acho que tudo foi como tinha que ser. Realmente tirei algo de bom de cada situação. Talvez eu tivesse começado tudo 10 anos antes?!

Como as redes sociais te ajudam e quais são suas dicas nesse quesito?
Não vivo mais sem as redes sociais no meu trabalho. São canais de comunicação imprescindíveis para quem trabalha com o público. Pessoalmente, procuro guardar as conexões que são relevantes para mim e que me trazer algo de positivo. Só passo meu tempo com conteúdo de qualidade.

Quais são as tendências na pintura nesse momento, o que as pessoas estão procurando mais?
As pessoas procuram todo o tipo de arte. Como eu sempre digo, toda obra de arte tem o seu dono, basta apenas que os dois se encontrem. Pode demorar muito tempo, mas um dia se encontrarão. Os abstratos têm feito muito sucesso e a atualmente vendem mais do que os concretos e figurativos, quer seja em pinturas, esculturas, fotografias. Talvez isso se deva ao fato de serem de interpretação mais livre. As pessoas se deixam envolver pelas cores e formas e fazem sua própria interpretação da obra. O novo e o diferente sempre fascinam!

Quais os planos da Lu Monin e seus projetos para 2021 pós vacina?
Muita arte pela frente ainda em 2021. Para mim, duas grandes exposições agendadas. Para nossos artistas, muita divulgação, oportunidades de crescimento, exposições e eventos artísticos diversos.Para nosso público, arte e conteúdo de qualidade. Que cada um possa ter acesso para apreciar, entender e adquirir uma obra de arte única.

In 2016, Lu Monin took the second step of her personal and professional revolution and officially and physically opened the painting studio that carries her name. Just two years earlier, she had left the corporate world where she had worked for years and years and was beginning to turn her passion into work, teaching painting classes and selling her creations. Since 2016, Atelier Lu Monin has evolved and listening to customers’ wishes, Lu has been diversifying activities and started proposing thematic classes such as’ wine and painting night ‘,’ parent and child activities’, ‘birthday parties’ and etc. . The studio broke away from the monotonous and opened the doors to user-friendliness, bringing a flexibility that is still rare in the art circa. With the 2020 pandemic, classes had to stop and Lu Monin took that time to focus again on herart. It was then that she realized that she needed an art curator to give her some guidance and a much appreciatedopinion on the evolution of her work. After looking for this professional  for a year, without much success, she had the idea of ​​becoming this pillar for new artists, of being someone from the art business who can talk about the work of other artists in a critical and didactic way, to give visibility to their creations and to open the right doors for them. That was how this new project was born: Lu Monin Gallery and LM & RA Art Curation, the latter in partnership with Rosa Agria.

In this interview, Lu shares with us her inspiring journey, gives tips for those who want to start a business and details about this new project that aims to help the work of new artists, after all, as she herself could prove, living of art is a dream, a possible one!

Miranda: 2021 marks the launch of two new products / projects for you, Galeria Lu Monin and Curadoria LM & RA, how did this idea come about and why is it special?
Lu Monin: First came the curatorial service for new and emerging artists and I started the year by launching “Don’t stop us now”, my first online exhibition. The Instagram stories were animated with the Queen song “Don’t stop me now” … that gave me so much energy that I kept advertising and posting! It was a great success and I spent January and February working night and day. Thankfully, I had a lot of help from my mother, Ro Agria, to publicize the participating artists, to assemble videos and in the preparatory work for the judges (one in Brazil, Paulo Barreto and another in Switzerland, Francisca Voutat). LM & RA art curators was born! And, with it, an independent art curation service platform open to visual artists, photographers, sculptors, designers, etc. From all over world. In less than a month, we started our own online art gallery, Galerie Lu Monin, dedicated exclusively to contemporary art, serving artists with our curatorship. I operate from Switzerland and Ro Agria from Brazil. Our artists have promotion in 3 languages ​​(English, French and Portuguese) 7 days a week and practically 24 hours per day … we don’t stop!

Are all artists welcome in your new project?
Yes sure. The only requirement is to produce quality work. We respect our artists and their work a lot, as much as we respect our audience. We want to promote art with engagement, purpose and reach for everyone.

How important is it for a new artist to have a consultancy / curator?
Every artist’s desire is to see their work recognized and sell it. However, the vast majority produce a lot and with greatquality, but are unable to publicize their work, either due to lack of experience in marketing or due to lack of time. For anartist, having an honest curator allied with their goals is extremely important. The curatorship takes care of the artist’simage in the artistic world, spreads the word about their work, looks for galleries and other places for exhibitions and helps in the valuation of the works. Often the artist is good, but they iare going in the wrong way production-wise. The curator makes the necessary criticisms so they can  improve their work and follow the right path. Anyway, with a curator at their side, the artist is much more likely to have a successful career.

What is the importance of diversifying projects / products for small business owners?
Flexibility is the keyword. Seeing solutions where there are problems is part of me as a creative (and Brazilian) person. If it weren’t for the wide range of services we offer, tailor-made and according to the needs of the public, I think that we would not have the success that we have in such a short time.

What are your tips for someone who wants to start their own business?
Organisation and method. If you do not have administrative experience in the area and do not want to take any risks, it is best to consult a professional.

What is it like for you to be a businesswoman and immigrant in this environment?
I encounter obstacles every day: there are prejudices because I am a woman, because I am a foreign, because of my accent, etc. Sometimes I get over it easily, sometimes I need to find strategies to get around it. I have the support and recognition of my family and their opinions are the ones that really makes a difference for me.

What would you like to have known before starting this journey?
I think everything was as it should be. I really got something good out of each situation. Maybe, I would have started it 10 years ago ?!

How do social media help you and what are your tips in this regard?
I no longer live without social media in my work. These are essential communication channels for those who work with the public. Personally, I try to keep the connections that are relevant to me and that bring me something positive. I just spend my time with quality content.

What are the trends in painting at the moment, what are people looking for the most?
People look for all kinds of art. As I always say, every work of art has its owner, they just have to find one another. It may take a long time, but one day they will meet. The abstracts have been very successful and currently sell more than the concrete and figurative, whether in paintings, sculptures, photographs. Perhaps this is due to the fact that they are more freely interpreted. People get involved in colors and shapes and make their own interpretation of the work. The new and the different always fascinate!

What are Lu Monin’s plans and projects for 2021 post vaccine?
A lot of art still ahead in 2021. For me, two major exhibitions are scheduled. For our artists, a lot of publicity, growth opportunities, exhibitions and various artistic events. For our audience, art and quality content. May each one have access to appreciate, understand and acquire a unique work of art.
