Edwardian style (1901 – 1910) is taking over the streets and runways in full force this year. In 2021, we are stepping back into the days of the typewriters and telegraphs when fashion was known for its excess and elegance. Picture this: it’s 1904 and you’re roaming the streets of London, England. You see high-class socialite women wearing billowing puffed sleeves, lace tight corsets, and overly extravagant high collars on their way to High Tea. How regal!
History loves to repeat itself especially when it comes to fashion. We saw the return of Edwardian style in the mid 1970’s with style icons like Bridgette Bardot and Jane Birkin modelling many styles reflected from this era. These designs soon trickled down to department stores where everybody could wear these pieces. Fast forward 40 years and we see a lot of this clothing in second hand shops. This gives many of us a chance to wear these styles in a sustainable manner. If you’re looking for a more contemporary take on Edwardian designs, you would have found them at 2020 fashion week from designers such as Hermes, Celine, and Gucci.
