Her blog is pure bliss! Well-organized, nice colors, beautiful photos, her recipes and DIY tutorials (recently with videos through her YouTube channel) really work (yes, we tried some of them, specially her recipes that we looove) and it is such a pleasure to read and get to know Sofia Clara’s routine. That’s just some of the reasons we are happy to have her as interviewee to talk about internet and of course fashion, style and beauty. And yes, she is as nice as it seems and it feels like she’s our friend, so hope you enjoy her interview as much as we did doing it.
- What is fashion for you? And how/why did you start your blog?
To me, fashion is a way of expressing yourself and how you’re feeling – it should be playful and rule-free. When I was studying, we had a strict dress code and I used my blog as a way to force myself out of the dress code and make sure I kept wearing clothes I loved and felt good in, no matter what anyone else thought.
- What are your daily essential items that you carry with you in your bag?
I often work on the go, be it for my blog or the freelance work I do, so my bag is always very techy and ridiculously heavy. I normally carry my Macbook Air and charger, my Canon 70D, my iPhone and charger, the house keys, a little card holder and then a few beauty essentials including a NYX liquid lipstick, an Essie handcream, a pot of Carmex lip balm, a Mac prep and prime finishing powder to get rid of any shine, and of course, a hair tie and bobby pins.
- A fashion mistake you made or make always / sometimes?
As long as you’re wearing your look with confidence, I don’t really believe in fashion mistakes – except leggings, leggings should have been banned a long time ago. I do however remember wearing this look (click here) to an event a little while ago and then realising that the trousers are meant to be 7/8 length trousers and not full length… I blame my short little legs. I still wear them and love them though.
- How do you define your style? What are your key pieces?
I’d say my style is feminine and playful – I’m not as daring as I’d like to be but I’m working on that 🙂 Key pieces? Dresses, skirts and jumpsuits.
- How long does it take for you to get ready, what’s your ritual?
I reckon it takes me about an hour from when I wake up to when I leave the house or start working and a good 30 minutes of that is reserved for calmly drinking a cup of English Breakfast tea and munching on breakfast. I can’t do anything without breakfast. Then, I hop in the shower, pick out an outfit and pop some make-up on before getting started on a busy day.
- Your favorites physical or online stores?
Ba&sh which has recently opened in Lausanne, The Kooples, COS, Sandro, Maje and Topshop which I normally buy through Zalando. Love a good vintage find, too!
- What are you currently reading, would you indicate it to us?
I’ve always got two or three books on the go – I normally like to have one non-fiction and one novel on my bedside table. I just finished Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up because I really need to stop hoarding stuff and I just started The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck. Can you sense a trend?
- And the song of the moment?
I’m loving Rhye’s latest album, Woman (click here)
- What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m not going to lie; I don’t have much free time. I love what I do so spend most of my time working. Otherwise, all I need is a good apéro with friends, a couple cocktails with the girls and frequent escapes to the playa!
- Any beauty advice?
Try to learn to love your imperfections – they make you different, they make you and I’m sure if you ask those who really love you, they are probably the things they find the most beautiful.
- Your favorite social network?
Instagram (@sofia.clara) by far!
- The trends do not always work for all biotypes and bodies, what’s your advice for our readers to adapt the trends to their bodies and budgets?
I’m not big on trends, rules or dos and don’ts so wear whatever makes you feel great and forget about the rest. If you’re not too sure what suits you, ask your closest and most honest friends and you’ll get back on the right path.
- And finally, what do you think Miranda would say if she saw your look?
I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Miranda yet but I’ll let you know what she says when I do!
