Montreal is known for its style, fashion, and diversity. This was clear to me the first time I visited Montreal in 2013. I was fascinated by the creative, vibrant, and young energy that filled the humid air while walking down St. Laurent Street. Everywhere I looked, I saw a fashionista rocking anything from the latest Louis Vuitton bag to wearing an item that was only to be found at a thrift shop. I was mesmerized by it all! This is a major reason why I made the move to Montreal from Saskatoon in 2020. I wanted to drown in the fashion.
My interest in fashion and style has led me to watching countless hours of YouTube videos. When I first came across KarenBritChik’s YouTube channel I was obsessed. Her series “What Everyone in New York is Wearing” is fabulous. Karen walks around the streets of New York stopping stylish people for interviews or recording them from afar. This concept was brilliant, natural, captivating. I thought – this needs to be done in Montreal!
So, I took to the streets and started the series called “What Montrealer’s are Wearing”.
I must admit, when I started this project, I wasn’t sure. First of all, I have never made a YouTube video or edited a video of this caliber. Second, how could I stop random people and have a conversation with them?!
Oh gosh, this is nerve racking but I did it. After I stopped the first or second person, it became easier and easier. I noticed that when I started complimenting people on their style, their entire energy brightened – because let’s face it… who doesn’t want to talk about themselves?! Especially when they are complimented. I believe that people genuinely enjoyed talking with me. We have become so starved for human connection and we have become accustomed to avoiding people during this pandemic. I made sure that I kept the mandatory distance from folks while still making a pleasant connection even if it was only for a minute or two.
The people in this video are interesting, special while at the same time, day to day people living day to day lives. What makes them special and what attracted me to them was their style and their energy both inside and out.
Montreal é conhecida por seu estilo, moda e diversidade. Isso ficou claro para mim na primeira vez que visitei Montreal em 2013. Fiquei fascinada com a energia criativa, vibrante e jovem que pairava no ar úmido enquanto eu caminhava pela famosa rua St. Laurent que divide a cidade em leste e oeste. Para onde quer que eu olhasse, via um fashionista arrasando com alguma peça, desde a última bolsa Louis Vuitton a um item que só poderia ser encontrado em uma loja de artigos usados. Fiquei hipnotizada por tudo! Esta é a principal razão pela qual me mudei de Saskatoon para Montreal em 2020. Eu queria me mergulhar de cabeça na moda.
Meu interesse por moda e estilo me levou a assistir a inúmeras horas de vídeos no YouTube. Quando me deparei com o canal da KarenBritChik no YouTube, eu fiquei obcecada. Sua série “O que todo mundo em Nova York está vestindo” é fabulosa. Karen anda pelas ruas de Nova York parando pessoas estilosas para entrevista-las ou apenas gravá-las de longe desfilando um look incrível. Esse conceito era brilhante, natural, cativante. Eu pensei – isso precisa ser feito em Montreal!
Então, eu saí para as ruas e comecei a série chamada “O que os Montrealenses estão vestindo”.
Devo admitir, quando comecei este projeto, não tinha certeza. Em primeiro lugar, nunca fiz um vídeo no YouTube ou editei um vídeo desse calibre. Em segundo lugar, como poderia parar pessoas aleatórias e ter uma conversa com elas ?!
Minha nossa, foi desesperador, mas eu consegui! Depois que parei a primeira ou a segunda pessoa, ficou cada vez mais fácil. Percebi que quando comecei a elogiar as pessoas por seu estilo, toda a sua energia mudava – porque, vamos encarar … quem não quer falar sobre si mesmo ?! Principalmente quando somos elogiados… Eu acredito que as pessoas realmente gostaram de falar comigo. Ficamos famintos por conexões humanas e nos acostumamos a evitar pessoas durante esta pandemia. Eu me certifiquei de manter a distância obrigatória das pessoas enquanto fazia uma conexão com elas, mesmo que fosse apenas por um ou dois minutos.
As pessoas neste vídeo são interessantes, especiais e, ao mesmo tempo, pessoas que vivem o dia a dia. O que os torna especiais e o que me atraiu neles foi o estilo e a energia de cada um que refletia no interior para o exterior!
